Commission on Judicial Selection Announces Vacancy in Fourth Judicial District

Saint Paul, MN – The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today that a judgeship vacancy is occurring in Minnesota’s Fourth Judicial District Court. The Honorable Charles A. Porter Jr. has retired, leaving a vacancy for a district judgeship chambered at Minneapolis in Hennepin County in the Fourth Judicial District.

The Commission is searching for fair, experienced and civic-minded individuals to serve on the bench, and offer their talents and services to Minnesota’s judicial system. The following qualities will be considered for judicial office: integrity, maturity, health (if job related), judicial temperament, legal knowledge, ability, experience, and community service. We will be hiring for specific document review projects on a temporary and project basis. Hours will typically be 40-hours per week for the duration of a project. In the past, projects have lasted from a few days to several months. Hamline University School of Law Seeks Director of Clinical Legal Education

Hamline University School of Law (HUSL) seeks a Director for its robust clinical legal education program, which includes eleven clinics (Child Advocacy, Education Law, Employment Discrimination Mediation Representation, Immigration Law, Health Law, Innocence, Mediation, Small Business-Nonprofit, State Public Defender, and Trial Practice).  Law students represent clients under the Minnesota Certified Student Practice Rule and are supervised by in-house attorneys or adjunct faculty members who are experienced practitioners. Cases are chosen to maximize student interaction with clients and foster student control and responsibility for every aspect of case management, including dealing with ethical issues, learning the lifelong habit of being a reflective lawyer, and the commitment to pro bono service as a practicing lawyer.

The Director’s administrative responsibilities include training, supervising and mentoring faculty teaching clinical courses, promotion of clinical programs to students and in the community, and supervision of clinic staff to maintain and refine law office systems and procedures to insure quality and ethical representation of clients. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Director will teach at least one clinic per year in an area of personal expertise. This is a tenure-track position with faculty rank and commensurate expectations regarding teaching and scholarship. 

 Candidates must hold a J.D., be licensed to practice law in Minnesota (or be willing to obtain a Minnesota license), and preferably have experience working with law students on client cases in a clinical, externship or similar setting. The candidate’s record should demonstrate superb lawyering skills, management experience, strong teaching ability and the communication and interpersonal skills essential to being an effective clinical teacher, and scholarship in the field.
